In my latest series, begun in anticipation for the 2023 Austin Art Tour (formerly known as EAST/East Austin Studio Tour), continued for the Affordable Art Fair Austin (May 16-19, 2024) and on to the present, I manipulate watery layers of India and acrylic inks on canvas. Reminiscent of my past works on paper and canvas series from over a decade ago, the watercolor-like, bleeding effect is unique to these surfaces: some I have prepared with thin layers of clear-gesso, others remain unprimed, natural canvas. (For some, I work outside, blasting my canvas frame with a water hose.) All are hand-stretched and framed by me, and finished with a protective spray varnish. Being a part of the physical creation of each piece beyond the paint adds a layer of intentionality and deeper presence for me. These works, as all my pieces over time, reflect the undulating nature and cycles of my internal operating systems. From restless, energetic moments to the sublime softening and slowing down that I have been experiencing more of in my life—making art is an exploration of my relationships with nature, loss, spirituality, the feminine and ultimately, myself. (a little more on that in my general artist statement here) Available works are noted as such, please reach out with any inquiries or if you would like to see a price list. Images in the carousel below are details and process photos of the most recent, currently-untitled pieces (as of September 2024); I will update the site and availability when they are completed.
